20111215 - Gibson A-3 mandolin, 1920.
This is the tear-drop shaped model, with oval soundhole, classic white top, and pearl inlay on the peghead. This specimen has excellent tone, resonance, volume, and sustain -- it is well suited to many styles, including Celtic, "old-time," and folk music. I have owned this classic Gibson for 21 years, during which time it has been lightly played, and kept in a humidity-controlled environment. In earlier times it passed through a number of hands and has taken a few knocks, but it is in very good condition -- structurally sound and in good repair. The top maintains the original curve. The original tuning machines wore out many years ago and were replaced with much better tuners, which have attractive buttons that compliment the white face. The nut and frets were also replaced years ago. The bridge is original. I have the original ivory-colored "ivoroid" pickguard and its mounting hardware. There is a Barcus-Berry transducer-pickup inside, which plugs into an end-pin jack -- easily be removed if it is not desired. Both a strong modern case and the original, beat-up Gibson case will be provided to the buyer. Call or email with questions, or if you wish to see photos.
